You come home after a hard day at work, you slip off your shoes, you battle the urge to eat the rubbish you want instead of the healthy stuff you should have for tea, then you eventually make your way into your bedroom. What do you find?
If the answer is:
- Seemingly, the aftermath of a whirlwind. Actually, just how it always looks because youve got no space
- A room thats dark and uninspiring
- Somewhere with no real style, just a mishmash of furniture
you need to read on to find out how to get the stylish, luxurious, and most importantly relaxing bedroom youre entitled to.
Colours and Textures
Relaxing bedroom colour schemes dont have to be all about lavender, sky blues and other wishy-washy shades; Im inspired by the TajMahal Palace hotel. To get this luxurious look, you could fill your bedroom with the glint of precious metals, balancing out gold picture frames, opulent mirrors and extravagant light fixtur es with delicate cream-coloured walls and furnishings. This look is richly coloured but calming the best of both worlds.
If you want a more contemporary look, a monochrome colour scheme is perfect (and very on-trend at the moment!). Use your bed as the starting point by opting for a black or white leather option then choose bedding in the opposite colour. Get an idea of the bed styles out there by visiting retailers such as Time4Sleep here. I dont like to commit to just black and white, so Id scatter a few coloured cushions onto the bed too, as a burst of colour thatll liven up the whole room without disrupting the cool and collected atmosphere of the bedroom.
Using bare wood in your bedroom is a great way to bring a natural look to the space, which is much better than stark, industrial-style furnishings when it comes to helping you to feel more restful. Adding a real plant will add to this, but natural, blossoming wall stencils can give an equally calming effect.
Storage
If, like mine, scattered lipsticks, perfumes and hair brushes make your bedroom floor a death trap, consider investing in a dressing table. A mirrored one can look ultra-luxurious, and all it takes to integrate it into the rest of your room is to bring in a few silver elements. Silver-stemmed lamps or silver-framed mirrors and pictures are perfect, and Ive found them easy to track down too.
If you want a more traditional feel to your room, vint age-style trunks make ideal places to hide away anything from linen and coats to shoes and books. Just position yours at the foot of your bed for hotel-inspired style.
There are a few tried and tested items Id recommend to anyone trying to turn their bedroom into a relaxing retreat:
- A sunrise simulation alarm clock. It really makes a difference to your mood.
- A blackout blind. Say goodnight to light pollution!
- The most comfortable mattress you can find. The bed is the most important thing in the room after all!
