Similar to New Years, Im not a big Valentine decorating. Yes, youve seen my valentine burlap wreath with felt flowers AND the wreath I created with paint chips, but honestly Id rather put my efforts towards making more permanent upgrades around the home.
Anyway, this months Lowes Challenge was to create something cute for V-day.

My Love Connection Wood Sign. No it has nothing to do with the old TV game show, but instead it has to do with the parts and pieces that make up this Valentine beauty.
This month I hunted and hunted around the Lowes aisles, when all of a sudden it dawned on me to go simple and create a sign (but a fab sign, of course). As I walked the plumbing aisle looking for materials for the glass jar holders and found the pipe clamps, I thought the round clamp would be perfect for the O. Then it all started to come together (in my mind of course).
I ended up with
Whats that spell? LOVE!
All the materials I gathered are connection pieces to bring two things together. I told you this was either completely dorky or completely awesome. Whats your current take on the idea? Isnt Valentines kind of a corny holiday anyway? Then Im right on track!
The project was fairly easy to create once I had all the parts and pieces pulled together.
I started off by painting a scrap piece of wood. The size is 16 x 6. I wanted the background to be a fun, vibrant hue so I chose lime green. I actually used craft paint since its what I already had on hand.
It was pretty once painted, but still needed to be jazzed up a bit. Recently my friend, Trish of The Purple Painted Lady sent me some Annie Sloan Dark Wax. Just like the regular wax and paint, I was apprehensive about using the dark wax, but I decided a small project would be great to test it out. Im in LOOOVE! more on that in another post
Anyway, I started by sanding the sign to distress it slightly. I dabbed a little bit of dark wax on a paper towel (I really should have used a wax brush sorry Trish). Then added a small (and I mean small) amount of wax on the edges of the sign and immediately wiped away. The dark wax gave just enough depth and distress that I was looking for!
Once the sign backdrop was done, it was time to add the connectors, a.k.a. The Letters!
The L was simple. Using pushpins with red heads, I secured the L-bracket through the 4 holes.
For the O and V, I attached them using a dab of hot glue Easy!
And for the E boy that was a bit tricky. I started out by printing a large E (arial bold font) from the computer. Then I hammered nails through the paper into the board leaving them 1/2 way exposed. I tore off the paper and threaded the picture wire around the nails. The last step was the hardest (it wasnt really that hard, but took a few tries) because the picture wire doesnt bend that easy.
And the Love Connection Sign is complete
It looks quite pretty as you enter into our home.
