Duque y Zamora Arquitectos completed the design for a generously-sized modern home in Villanueva de Pría, Spain. The residence pays tribute to energy efficiency and sustainability. Part of a joint project that includes three other houses, Villa EntreEncinas consists of a compact volume, partially hidden in the steep terrain. To the south, there is a solar collector, which sits on the flat area of the plot. Its height does not exceed that of the surrounding treetops.
From the 1st floor, the view is not interrupted and the light shines with greater intensity and duration. This was the perfect place to position the living room, kitchen and bathroom. The private areas are located on the ground floor. According to the architects, the materials used for the construction were non-toxic, with a low environmental impact for a healthy indoor environment, mostly of organic origin and 100% renewable: “laminated wood for prefabricated structures, insulation cork for façade and roof, cellular glass insulation under slab, piping, wiring and electrical equipment polypropylene lime plaster facade, roof garden, PVC curtains and blinds, and natural limestone flooring and bamboo“.

Agraz Arquitectos envisioned and developed Casa Natalia, a 565 square-meter property in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. The project showcases quite a few original design features,starting with its original layout. A stairway hints the way towards a ground floor area. According to the architects, this particular element also “leads to the main door, which by being separated from the car entrance, leaves a front plaza for the house that dilutes all frontiers between urban and architectonic spaces“.
“Once inside, the living and dinning rooms offer an extension with an intimate family room and a terrace that can be the perfect social place due to its transforming possibilities: it can be fused or isolated from the rest of the precincts according to the needs and has an independent entrance“. While the facade facing the street is partially shut, the opposite side of the residence displays large windows, opening up the home towards a lovely garden.

The architect wanted to design a house that fits into the landscape: “Integrated tightly into the large iconic trees on the site, this house uses traditional home proportions to blend with the neighborhood. The horizontal lines of the design tie the home to the land, while the roof and balcony reach into the trees making them integral to the home.” Empowering and sophisticated, the interior mixes natural materials such as hardwood, marble and stone bricks .
