The first major DIY project anyone ventures on is quite the learning experience, but if youre prepared to work, have the right attitude, and arent afraid of a little planning, youll be more than proud of the end result. Have fun and explore your inner designer!
Here are some tips for your own bathroom reno.
- Choose your tile first- its the most permanent element in a bathroom.
- Always take home samples and test them out in the actual room they will be installed. Youd be surprised how different things look at home vs. in the store.
- When making your tile selection, get multiple pieces of the same sample if you can (if you cant take multiples home, do this in the store). Lay the tiles down on the floor in the pattern youre considering.
- Prime first, and choose your paint color after. Dont let the existing color influence the new paint color.
- Buy test pots. Test the colors in three different areas around the room with different light.
- Always allow a bit of extra room in your budget for unexpected errors/buried issues that will need to be fixed.
- Hire a professional for tiling. Experienced handiwork makes all the difference to the finished product. Dont get me wrong- Im a huge advocate for DIY, but some things should be left up to the professionals, and I believe tiling is definitely one of them.
